A team from the Pakistani government successfully brokered a seven-day ceasefire agreement between rival sectarian groups on Sunday, a team member confirmed.

This deal comes after several days of violent clashes in the northwest that left at least 68 people dead and injured many others.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Information Minister and government spokesperson, Muhammad Ali Saif, told that leaders from both Shi’ite and Sunni communities had agreed to stop the attacks.

These clashes began when gunmen targeted convoys of civilian vehicles on Thursday, resulting in at least 40 deaths, most of whom were Shi’ite Muslims.
