On International Day of Family Remittances, Pakistan proudly revealed a significant inflow of $34 billion in remittances during the current fiscal year, underlining the unwavering commitment of abroad Pakistanis to the national economy.
The surge reflects a constant increase in remittance inflows, which are mostly fueled by Pakistani expatriates working in the Middle East, North America, and Europe. Despite global economic worries, their assistance remains a lifeline for millions of families back home and an important component of the country’s foreign reserves.
Government officials hailed the diaspora for their dedication, noting that remittances now account for over 8% of Pakistan’s GDP, helping stabilize the economy, reduce poverty, and boost local development initiatives. The central bank continues to encourage digital channels to further streamline and secure money transfers.
Observed annually on June 16, the International Day of Family Remittances honors over 200 million migrant workers globally who send money to nearly 800 million family members. For Pakistan, the day serves as both a celebration and a reminder of the strength and resilience of its global community.
