Philippines Okays Expressway Toll Fee Rise from March 2

Filipino drivers will pay increased expressway toll fees from March 2, with the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) approving a two-stage toll adjustment on various major highways. The hike is intended to finance on-going infrastructure upgrade and maintain smoother road upkeep.

The initial stage of the hike comes into effect right away, impacting important roads including the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), and the Metro Manila Skyway. The second stage is to follow later in the year, with specifics still to be revealed by officials.

Transportation groups and commuters have raised concerns regarding the cost, particularly during high fuel prices and inflation. Nevertheless, the TRB asserts that the hike is required to support road development projects and enhance travel efficiency.

Drivers are encouraged to refer to new toll rates prior to traveling and use alternative routes to reduce costs. Authorities also assure improved traffic management to alleviate congestion after the fee hike.
