UAE’s ‘Plant the Emirates’ Begins With First 10,000 Seedlings in Homes, Schools, and Public Spaces

The UAE has made a notable advancement in its environmental efforts with the introduction of the ‘Plant the Emirates’ initiative, which aims to plant one million trees throughout the country. This week, the program began distributing its first batch of 10,000 seedlings to Emirati homes, schools, mosques, hospitals, and various public and private institutions, marking an encouraging start to this extensive greening project.

The initial batch consists of ornamental plants and fruit trees, which will soon be planted in different communities and public areas. The launch event took place at Gracia Farm in Abu Dhabi and was attended by Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, the Minister of Climate Change and Environment, along with government officials and environmental advocates who celebrated this important milestone in the UAE’s dedication to green growth and sustainability.

Educational Support for Future Gardeners
To assist recipients in their gardening endeavors, the initiative plans to create a dedicated website that will provide step-by-step planting and care guides, along with educational videos on how to nurture seedlings in the UAE’s distinct climate. This online resource aims to equip participants with the knowledge necessary to grow and maintain their plants, enabling them to contribute significantly to a greener UAE.

Who Receives the Seedlings?
Seedlings are being distributed based on pre-submitted requests and a demonstrated commitment to their care. Schools, government entities, and individuals who show a strong dedication to sustainability were among the first to receive the plants. This selection method ensures that the seedlings are planted and cared for in environments where they can thrive and positively influence their surroundings.

This distribution is part of the UAE’s broader environmental vision, encouraging everyone to actively participate in creating a sustainable future. As the ‘Plant the Emirates’ initiative expands, it will not only enhance urban green spaces but also promote biodiversity and improve the overall environment.
