Pogba’s Brother and Five Others Go on Trial for Blackmailing Footballer

A trial has commenced in Paris involving six individuals, including Mathias Pogba, the brother of football star Paul Pogba, who are charged with blackmail, extortion, and holding the player at gunpoint. The defendants are accused of trying to coerce Pogba into paying an astonishing $13.5 million. This case has sent shockwaves through the French football community and includes three of Pogba’s childhood friends alongside his brother.

The proceedings, which began on Tuesday at the Paris criminal court, have added to the turmoil surrounding Pogba’s career, which has already faced numerous professional challenges. The midfielder, who played a key role in France’s 2018 World Cup triumph, has encountered a series of difficulties both on and off the field in recent times.

The accused are said to have devised a plan to extort money from Pogba through threats and intimidation, including an armed confrontation. This case has sparked serious concerns about the darker aspects of fame and the pressures that accompany it, especially when those involved are meant to be close family and friends.

As the trial progresses, the football community is paying close attention, with many expressing disbelief at the involvement of Pogba’s own brother in the alleged scheme. The verdict could have significant personal and professional repercussions for the player.
