Commuters in Ras Al Khaimah can enjoy free rides on city buses this November 26, as part of a campaign to promote public transport. The Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority (RAKTA) announced the initiative on Monday to mark Green Mobility Week.
What is Green Mobility Week?
Green Mobility Week, which starts today (November 25), aims to encourage sustainable travel and eco-friendly transport options. This initiative supports Ras Al Khaimah’s Green Mobility Strategy 2023-2040, focusing on environmental and developmental sustainability.
Free Bus Rides to Encourage Public Transport
As part of Green Mobility Week, November 26 has been designated as a free public transport day for city buses. This move encourages residents and visitors to choose public transport while highlighting its environmental benefits.
Activities During Green Mobility Week
The week will include several events such as:
- Awareness workshops on eco-friendly transportation.
- Exhibitions featuring the latest innovations like electric vehicles, smart booking services, and public transport projects.
These activities aim to show how shared mobility can help reduce traffic and energy consumption, contributing to long-term sustainability goals.
Statement from RAKTA
Eng. Esmaeel Hasan AlBlooshi, Director General of RAKTA, emphasized:
“Green Mobility Week reflects our commitment to providing sustainable and integrated transport solutions that enhance quality of life while protecting the environment. This initiative aligns with Ras Al Khaimah’s vision of transitioning to a green economy.”
RAKTA also aims to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable travel by launching electric and hybrid taxis and transitioning to clean energy solutions.
