Ras Al Khaimah is gearing up for the launch of Saqr 2.0, a state-of-the-art port set to open in 2027. Featuring deep-water berths and an 8-million-square-meter free zone, this port is designed to revolutionize maritime logistics.

A standout feature is the green ship recycling facility, which offers an environmentally friendly way to recycle large ships, a first of its kind in the region.

“We aim to lead in sustainable ship recycling while aligning with global environmental goals,” said Roy Cummins, CEO of RAK Ports. He shared these insights at the Ras Al Khaimah Investment and Business Summit (RAKIS), where he highlighted the project’s significance.

“Saqr 2.0 is more than just a port; it’s a transformative step for the future of maritime logistics in Ras Al Khaimah. It will set new standards for efficiency, sustainability, and global connectivity,” Cummins added.

A Platform for Growth and Innovation

Saqr 2.0 will play a pivotal role in RAK Ports’ diversification strategy. Key plans include:

  • Luxury yacht maintenance
  • Advanced warehousing and logistics
  • Support for major infrastructure projects

RAK Ports is also in talks with partners like RAK Gas to explore handling new fuel types and alternative energy sources.

As part of this transformation, the Al-Jazeera shipyard will be relocated to Saqr 2.0, centralizing operations and expanding services such as green ship recycling and luxury yacht repairs.

RAK Maritime City Free Zone

The free zone at Saqr 2.0 spans over 8 million square meters of waterfront land, making it a strategic hub for industries dependent on maritime supply chains. It provides:

  • Direct access to deep-water berths, some reaching depths of 18 meters, ideal for accommodating Capesized vessels.
  • Facilities for warehousing, logistics, and other value-added services.

Modernizing Existing Facilities

RAK Ports is also modernizing its existing facilities:

  • Saqr Port: The largest bulk port in the region.
  • Ras Al Khaimah Port: A hub for cargo and warehousing.
  • Al-Jeer Port: Specializing in livestock handling.
  • Al-Jazeera Port: A mid-sized shipyard for repairs and warehousing.

Cummins referred to RAK Ports as a “hidden gem,” emphasizing its pivotal role in global supply chains. “We’re not just running ports; we’re driving global connectivity,” he said.
