The Riyadh Metro is set to start its first phase on November 27, marking a major milestone for the project. Known as the world’s longest driverless metro system, the first three routes will officially begin operations this Wednesday, according to a post by Riyadh Metro on X.

The entire system will have six routes, covering 176 km with a total of 84 stations.

Phase two, which includes the remaining three routes, is expected to launch by mid-December, as per media reports. The project has an estimated cost of around $22.5 billion, making it one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the region.

The routes are named the Blue Line, Red Line, Orange Line, Yellow Line, Green Line, and Purple Line. Once operational, the Riyadh Metro will become the second metro system in Saudi Arabia, following the Makkah Metro for Haj pilgrims, which launched in November 2010.
