Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, is set to launch the first phase of its innovative Riyadh Metro on November 27, marking a significant advancement in the city’s public transportation system.

The initial launch will see three of the six planned metro lines become operational, with the remaining lines expected to be ready by mid-December. This eagerly awaited project aims to offer a more efficient and sustainable alternative to the city’s infamous traffic congestion, providing both residents and visitors with a smooth transit experience.

A Global Milestone in Transport Technology
The Riyadh Metro is on track to become the world’s longest driverless metro system, showcasing Saudi Arabia’s dedication to innovation and modern infrastructure. The use of driverless technology not only boosts safety and efficiency but also places Riyadh at the forefront of global transportation networks.

The metro system is anticipated to lessen dependence on cars, reducing traffic jams and pollution while enhancing the overall quality of life for its residents. As part of the ambitious Vision 2030 initiative, the Riyadh Metro aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader objective of diversifying its economy and establishing Riyadh as a leading global hub for business and commerce.

Key Features of the Riyadh Metro
Six Lines: Initially, three metro lines will be operational, with the remaining lines expected to be fully functional by December 2024.
Driverless Technology: The metro will be the longest in the world to utilize fully automated trains, providing a modern and efficient alternative to traditional transportation.
Sustainability Focus: By decreasing road traffic, the metro aims to enhance air quality and support Saudi Arabia’s environmental goals under Vision 2030.
