The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has completed the highly anticipated Al Jamayel Street Development Project, a significant infrastructure effort aimed at enhancing traffic flow and connectivity throughout the city. Previously known as Garn Al Sabkha, the newly constructed 7-kilometer street serves as a vital link between two of Dubai’s key highways, Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
This extensive project features the construction of four new bridges, totaling 2,874 meters, with a remarkable capacity to handle up to 17,600 vehicles per hour. This development is expected to greatly alleviate traffic congestion and offer commuters a smoother, quicker route. Improvements to surface intersections along the service road adjacent to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Al Jamayel Street will improve the overall traffic flow in this bustling area of the city.
Enhancing Traffic Efficiency and Connectivity
The new street aims to cut travel time by as much as 40% for vehicles traveling from Al Jamayel Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. The addition of four lanes in each direction boosts the road’s capacity to accommodate around 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, creating a more efficient transportation corridor for the increasing population and business activities in the region.
The road also features modern infrastructure, including street lighting, traffic signals, and a comprehensive rainwater drainage system, along with an irrigation setup to preserve the area’s greenery. These enhancements further contribute to improved road safety and an overall better experience for users.
A Vital Link for Dubai’s Road Network
Mattar Al Tayer, the Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at the RTA, emphasized the significance of the project, saying, “Al Jamayel Street serves as a crucial connection between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, enabling smoother traffic flow between these major routes through First Al Khail Road and Al Asayel Street.”
This important link not only enhances access to key business and residential areas but also creates a more seamless connection between major highways, improving mobility for both residents and visitors. The completion of this project represents another key milestone in Dubai’s continuous efforts to develop and upgrade its transport infrastructure to accommodate the needs of a rapidly expanding city.
