A male capybara that escaped from a local zoo and became a celebrity in China has been recaptured, capping a two-month escapade that thrilled animal enthusiasts nationwide. The fugitive mouse had eluded zookeepers for weeks after his two friends were apprehended shortly after their escape.
The trio initially fled from the zoo in southeastern China in early spring, but while the other two were quickly apprehended, the final capybara remained elusive. Officials described him as “surprisingly cunning,” usually escaping just as they were closing in on him.
