Saudi Arabia Dashes Alcohol Ban Rumors in Prep for 2034 World Cup

Saudi Arabia has outrightly dismissed rumors that it is poised to end its long-standing alcohol ban prior to hosting the 2034 FIFA World Cup. A government representative debunked the claims, terming them as speculative and without any official confirmation. The rumors spread from blog posts and non-verifiable sources, which gained momentum on social media.

The rumor surprised everyone worldwide, with some believing Saudi Arabia could do what Qatar did during the 2022 World Cup and relax tourism restrictions by allowing alcohol consumption or sales. Officials, though, explained that there are no plans or talks to enable alcohol sales or consumption at this point, reaffirming the Kingdom’s strict preservation of its values and laws.

The denial serves to reinforce Saudi Arabia’s desire to uphold its social conventions while building towards hosting an international sporting event. Authorities promised fans and organizers that all arrangements for overseas visitors would be handled within the legal and hospitality frameworks of the country, providing a distinctive and culture-sensitive World Cup experience.

This is contained within Saudi Arabia’s wider communications push as it steps up preparations for the 2034 World Cup. The Kingdom remains committed to infrastructure, tourism, and global outreach—and preserving traditions at its core.
