Saudi Arabia Hit by Cold Wave as Temperatures Fall Below Zero

SHARE

A severe cold wave has swept Saudi Arabia, with temperatures likely to fall below zero degrees Celsius in a number of areas. The harsh weather conditions are most impacting northern areas of the kingdom, where people are preparing for freezing nights and frosty mornings.

Northern Areas Encounter Harsh Weather
Based on the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), urban areas like Tabuk, Al-Jawf, and the Northern Borders region will see subzero temperatures, with frost and cold winds contributing to the winter. The authorities have called on citizens to adopt precautionary measures to keep themselves warm and not venture out unnecessarily.

Authorities Issue Weather Warnings
Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense has issued warnings about the negative impacts of the cold wave, urging citizens to dress warmly, exercise caution at home with heating systems, and exercise special caution when driving as roads may become icy. The weather agency has also issued strong winds and low visibility warnings, which complicate travel.

Impact on Daily Life
The abrupt fall in temperature is likely to interrupt normal routines, especially for people in outdoor jobs, livestock farmers, and travelers. Local communities are meanwhile organizing relief efforts, handing out blankets and warm clothing to the needy.

With temperatures forecast to stay low for the next few days, Saudi Arabia is going through one of its chilliest spells in years, an unusually tough winter season for the desert nation.
