Saudi Arabia Increases Mecca Housing to Capacity for 1.8 Million Hajj Pilgrims

In a significant effort to rationalize preparations for the yearly Hajj pilgrimage, Saudi Arabia has raised Mecca’s capacity for housing to host up to 1.8 million pilgrims, representing a major leap towards improving the comfort and security of pilgrims coming from around the world. This is as the Kingdom starts receiving the first batches of international pilgrims in preparation for the 2025 Hajj season.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah reported that accommodation permits have been granted for residential buildings in Mecca, after a strict inspection and licensing procedure to guarantee facilities comply with health and safety standards. The expansion of capacity is part of the Kingdom’s long-term Vision 2030 objective of enhancing infrastructure and enhancing the spiritual experience of Hajj pilgrims.

As the number of pilgrims is likely to exceed pre-pandemic numbers, the local government has increased transportation, healthcare, and emergency services. Pilgrims from Indonesia, Pakistan, India, and Nigeria have already started arriving, and thousands more will follow in the weeks ahead.

This year’s expansion reflects Saudi Arabia’s drive to provide one of the globe’s biggest religious events. Through more logistical support and upgraded accommodation systems, the Kingdom is set to provide a smooth, secure, and spiritually rewarding pilgrimage experience for millions of Muslims from around the world.
