Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, expressed optimism about Lebanon’s future under its new leadership. During his visit to Beirut, Prince Faisal described the election of President Joseph Aoun as a highly positive development, signaling a new era of reform and stability for the country.
Prince Faisal stressed the importance of reforms presented by President Aoun that aim to resolve the crises in Lebanon and restore confidence among its partners. He indicated that these reforms would open doors for Lebanon to regain its rightful place in the Arab and international spheres.
This visit will be the first high-ranking Saudi official to Beirut in nearly 15 years and is reflective of major political changes that have occurred in Lebanon since the end of the war between Israel and Hezbollah. The visit by Prince Faisal further highlights Saudi Arabia’s interest in the rehabilitation of Lebanon and a more cordial bilateral relationship.
The Saudi Foreign Minister also called on Lebanon to develop better relations with other Arab countries and for the state to have a monopoly on the right to carry arms, an apparent reference to Hezbollah’s weapons.
