SGPC Demands Ban on Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ in Punjab

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has called for a ban of Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Emergency in the state of Punjab. The Sikh body in its stern objection shows that the film misrepresents historical facts and emotions of the Sikh community.

1. SGPC’s Stand Against the Film
The SGPC has informed the film producers that it “will strongly oppose the film if it is released” in Punjab. As per their statement, the depiction of the events around the Emergency period besmirches the Sikh sacrifices and contributions.

2. Historical Inaccuracy Issues
The organization has criticized the film for what it calls a distorted depiction of key events. The SGPC has emphasized that filmmakers should consult historians and community representatives to avoid such controversies.

3. Kangana Ranaut’s Response
Actress and director Kangana Ranaut has not issued any comment about the allegations of the SGPC. The movie, which deals with India’s Emergency period from 1975–77, has already flared up political debates in the country.

4. Possible Aftermath in Punjab
The SGPC has asked the state government to intervene and stop the film from hitting the screens, which may lead to protests if the demand is not met. Given the political climate in Punjab, which is sensitive to cultural and historical issues, the controversy will only worsen.

This emerging story adds to the woes of filmmakers who take on sensitive historical subjects. Keep an eye out for updates.
