Sharjah has reached a significant milestone in sustainable agriculture. The organic honey has been successfully harvested from the Al Muntathar Nature Reserve. This marks the start of a project designed to enhance food security. It will promote environmental stewardship in the UAE.

The initiative is led by the Sharjah Agriculture and Livestock Production Establishment (Ektifa). It is set to start commercial production by the first half of 2025. This development will strengthen the local beekeeping industry. This development is vital for pollination and biodiversity. It utilizes the unique flora found in the reserve.

Dr. Khalifa Musabah Al Tunaiji is the head of the Sharjah Agriculture and Livestock Department and CEO of Ektifa. He shared that the project includes special beekeeping methods. These natural methods will lead to environmental sustainability.

The honey produced in Al Muntathar benefits from a rich mix of native Sidr, Samr, and Ghaf trees. The resulting honey is a product that has a unique flavor and numerous health benefits. The project is highly important in promoting local agricultural practices and ecological conservation.

The distinctive environment of the reserve supports high-quality honey production. It also highlights the UAE’s dedication to sustainable food sources. There are chances of expanding beekeeping practices. The honey-making techniques are flexible with the UAE’s arid climate leading to food security.
