Dubai’s Ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, announced the fifth edition of the Hope Maker’s Contest on Sunday. This contest celebrates individuals for their humanitarian contributions and positive impact on society.
Sheikh Mohammed, who is the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, encouraged people to nominate themselves or others who have made a difference in their communities. Sharing the news on social media, he highlighted the importance of spreading optimism and hope in the region.
“Hope is what drives humanity forward. It strengthens communities and makes even the toughest challenges easier to overcome. While some spread negativity and despair, we focus on spreading optimism and hope,” Sheikh Mohammed stated.
He further explained the goal of the contest, saying:
“In every village and city, there are people who dedicate their lives to creating hope, spreading goodness, and helping others. We aim to honor these individuals, celebrate their efforts, and inspire everyone with their examples. With God’s grace, we launch this new edition of the ‘Hope Makers’ to find and celebrate these extraordinary people.”
Eligibility for Hope Maker’s Contest
Sheikh Mohammed outlined the key qualifications for participants:
- Experience: The participant must have prior experience in humanitarian or community service.
- Skills: A positive outlook on life is essential.
- Language: Participants should be fluent in the “language of giving,” which includes acts of kindness and service.

“We pray for guidance to spread optimism, positivity, and the hope of a better future in our region, which has endured so much,” Sheikh Mohammed added.
The announcement was accompanied by a touching video showcasing previous winners, who have made remarkable contributions to their communities globally.
Inspiring Past Winners
- 2017: Nawal Al Soufi from Morocco saved over 200,000 refugees, earning her the Arab Hope Maker title.
- 2018: Mahmoud Wahid from Egypt was recognized for providing shelter to homeless seniors in Cairo.
- 2020: Emirati Ahmed Al Falasi won for establishing advanced kidney dialysis centers and incubators in Mombasa, Kenya.
- 2024: Iraqi pharmacist Tala Al Khalil received the prestigious award for caring for children with cancer and youngsters of determination. Additionally, three other finalists were each awarded Dh1 million to continue their humanitarian efforts.
