Sanaa Suhail has been appointed to lead the new ministry. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized, “The family is a national priority, the foundation of progress, and a key to the nation’s future.”

Leadership and Experience

Sanaa Suhail brings extensive experience in early childhood development, family welfare, and supporting people of determination. Over her years in government service, she has made significant contributions to community-related initiatives.

National Focus on Families

The move aligns with directives from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed, who stressed the importance of creating national programs to promote family formation, enhance growth, and boost fertility rates. The new ministry will focus on addressing these priorities.

Key Responsibilities of the Ministry

Sheikh Mohammed outlined the main tasks for the Ministry of Family:

  • Developing policies and strategies to support stable and cohesive families.
  • Proposing initiatives to increase fertility rates among Emirati families.
  • Reducing family breakdown risks and addressing their social impacts.
  • Preparing couples for marriage and supporting them through marriage grants and programs.
  • Promoting parenting skills and encouraging work-life balance.
  • Ensuring children’s welfare by safeguarding their educational, psychological, and health needs.
  • Supporting vulnerable groups and integrating them into society.
  • Regulating and licensing social service institutions and professionals.

Renaming of Another Ministry

In a separate announcement, Sheikh Mohammed revealed that the Ministry of Community Development has been renamed the Ministry of Community Empowerment. Shamma Al Mazrouei will head this ministry.

This revamped ministry will focus on social empowerment, supporting low-income Emirati families, and enhancing community participation. Its responsibilities include managing social support programs, overseeing public benefit organizations, and encouraging volunteerism. Additionally, it will regulate non-Muslim houses of worship and monitor their activities.
