Significant AI Change: Will Apple Use ChatGPT to Power Siri?

Apple may be moving away from its long-standing “in-house only” AI strategy as it is apparently in late-stage discussions with OpenAI and Anthropic to improve Siri cognition. The corporation has asked to test customised versions of both models on Apple’s secure cloud infrastructure, according to Bloomberg.

This action follows major delays caused by technical issues, such as an unstable hybrid code architecture, in Apple’s internal Siri makeover, which was a component of its “LLM Siri” programme. According to industry insiders, Apple might use a hybrid approach, including an established external model while carrying out internal work in order to relaunch Siri in a significant way by the spring of 2026.

Such a change would be a critical turning point in Apple’s AI strategy, allowing ChatGPT, Claude, or perhaps both to coexist in the company’s environment. In the future, Siri may be able to respond to more conversational and context-aware questions from tablet or iPhone users, comparable to Google Assistant, while also upholding Apple’s stringent privacy policies.

The possible influence goes beyond characteristics. Apple would strengthen Anthropic as a significant OpenAI substitute if it chooses Claude. On the other hand, incorporating ChatGPT would win over billions of Apple customers to OpenAI. In either case, this action might change how voice assistants and consumer AI compete.
