Silk Road-Inspired Suhoor in UAE Raises Dh2 Million for Students

A lavish Silk Road-themed suhoor at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) has raised Dh2 million for needy students. The unique event, which was graced by philanthropists, leaders, and students, commemorated the historic trade and culture of the Silk Road while inculcating a culture of giving during Ramadan. The event was intended to offer financial assistance and scholarships to deserving students so that their academic goals are not hampered by financial limitations.

The suhoor was marked by a kaleidoscopic showcase of traditions of the Silk Road, where various food dishes from the culturally rich regions traditionally prospering on the trade route were on show. The diverse fare included samples of Middle Eastern, Central Asian, and Far Eastern cuisine that reflected the melting pot of cultures through trade and exchange. It also had live performances, storytellings, and a fund-raising auction, adding its bit to the cause.

University administrators were thankful for the generous giving of donors, citing “the power of community support in changing lives.” “This effort is a testament to the power of community support in changing lives. The proceeds from fundraising will be directed to scholarships, enabling students to realize their aspirations and make positive contributions to society,” a university spokesperson stated.

The success of the Silk Road suhoor reflects the UAE’s robust culture of giving, particularly during Ramadan. AUS confirms its dedication to empowering students with education as Dh2 million was raised. The organizers wish that such an event would be the standard for other future fundraising drives to ensure ongoing assistance to students who cannot afford it.
