Former world No. 1 Simona Halep has announced her retirement from professional tennis after suffering a home defeat in her native Romania. The 32-year-old, who has been battling with physical challenges for some time, stated that her body can no longer endure the rigors of the sport.

A two-time Grand Slam champion, Halep retired after a tearful defeat on home soil. Even though her career has been remarkable, winning the Wimbledon and the French Open titles, she had been suffering from injuries for a long time.

In her emotional statement, Halep shared how difficult it was to say goodbye to a sport she loved so much. “I have had an amazing journey, but now my body can’t handle the physical demands of tennis anymore,” she remarked.

Fans and fellow players have expressed admiration for her contributions to tennis and praised her for her resilience and sportsmanship throughout her career.
