South Africa Gets Closer to Hosting Formula One Race Again

After more than three decades, Formula One racing could soon return to South Africa, as talks advance to bring the prestigious motorsport event back to the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit near Johannesburg — the site of the country’s last F1 race in 1993.

Kyalami on the Brink of a Comeback
The iconic Kyalami track has undergone major upgrades in recent years and is now being strongly considered for inclusion in a future F1 calendar. Sources suggest that negotiations between F1 officials and South African stakeholders are in advanced stages.

“Bringing Formula One back to South Africa would be a landmark moment, not just for the country but for the entire African continent,” according to a sports analyst.

A historical return to Africa
If approved, South Africa will become the only African country to hold a Formula One race, a move that is consistent with F1’s aim of global expansion and inclusivity.

When could it happen?
While no official date has been declared, industry insiders believe a return might begin as early as the 2026 season, depending on final agreements, infrastructure readiness, and scheduling logistics.

The probable return of the South African Grand Prix has sparked tremendous excitement among motorsport fans and may signify a new era for Formula One on the A.
