South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has outrightly dismissed claims by former U.S. President Donald Trump that land confiscation was underway in South Africa, calling them misleading and misinformed. In reaction to Trump’s remarks, Ramaphosa said his government’s land reform program is aimed at redressing historical injustices without compromising economic stability and food security.
A key, contentious debate on land ownership exists in South Africa, which saw the government implementing land redistribution policies in a quest to redress some of the inequities engendered during the apartheid period.
