The Syrian rebel flag has been raised over the Syrian embassy building in Moscow, marking a significant turn of events in Syria’s political landscape.

According to Russian news agencies, President Bashar Al Assad and his family are currently in Moscow after rebel forces entered Damascus without resistance. This development ends nearly 60 years of Assad family rule in Syria.

On the balcony of the embassy, Syrians celebrated under snowfall, raising the green, red, black, and white flag of the Syrian opposition. The scene was filled with claps and songs, showcasing a powerful moment of change.

“Today, the embassy opened and is operating under a new flag,” a representative told TASS, Russia’s state news agency.

Russia, once a strong ally of Assad, faces uncertainty regarding its military bases in Syria. The Kremlin stated that discussions are ongoing with the new authorities in power.

A source revealed that rebel forces, who swiftly ousted Assad, have ensured the safety of Russian army bases and diplomatic missions in Syria.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that President Vladimir Putin granted Assad asylum in Russia, but discussions about the future of Russia’s military presence in Syria are still in progress.
