Dr. Sultan Al Neyadi, UAE Minister of State for Youth Affairs, highlighted the need for youth empowerment by urging young people to step out of their comfort zones and seize the opportunities provided to them. Speaking at the Global Women’s Forum in Dubai, he emphasized that creating opportunities is not enough; young individuals must have the skills and confidence to make the most of these chances.

“Youth must be proactive and courageous in taking charge of their future. Opportunities won’t always come to you, so step out of your comfort zone and embrace them. Our leaders provide opportunities, and our role is to ensure that youth are ready to seize them,” said Dr. Al Neyadi.

Focus on Holistic Education and Skills

Dr. Al Neyadi stressed the importance of holistic education in today’s world shaped by technological advancements and globalization. He noted the need for skills like critical thinking, research, and responsible use of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI). “These tools are powerful but must be used wisely,” he said.

He also emphasized emotional intelligence, citing compassion, communication, and cooperation as key traits for building strong relationships and avoiding misunderstandings in a digital era.

UAE’s Youth Agenda: Building Future Leaders

Discussing the federal youth agenda, Dr. Al Neyadi shared that Youth Councils were established to empower young leaders by involving them in decision-making and innovative projects. These councils focus on five key pillars:

  1. Financial education
  2. Citizenship
  3. Building Emirati Role Models
  4. Developing future skills
  5. Enhancing quality of life

“These pillars guide youth aged 15-35 through crucial transitions, from young adulthood to workforce integration and family life,” he explained.

Economic Empowerment and Leadership Opportunities

Economic empowerment was highlighted as a cornerstone of sustainable development. Dr. Al Neyadi stressed the importance of fostering financial independence and leadership skills from an early age, enabling young individuals to confidently take on future challenges.

The UAE’s national strategy for youth empowerment includes initiatives like the Youth Council, a network of over 200 councils with 2,000 members.

These efforts are complemented by programs such as youth delegations to the United Nations, which allow young people to engage in global discussions, understand policies, and grow into effective decision-makers.
