His Highness Al Faya’s site borders have been formally authorised by Sharjah’s ruler and Supreme Council member, Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, as part of the emirate’s application to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The action demonstrates Sharjah’s continued dedication to protecting its unique archaeological and cultural legacy.

Located in the Mleiha region, Al Faya is home to ancient burial sites, pre-Islamic artifacts, and key findings that offer insight into early human migration and settlement in the Arabian Peninsula. A vital first step in meeting UNESCO’s stringent heritage nomination standards is the site’s formal designation.

The designation formally designates the region of Al Faya as a protected cultural heritage zone, facilitating scholarly research, responsible tourism development, and improved conservation efforts. It also portends a larger plan to draw attention to Sharjah’s rich history on a worldwide scale.

This project is a component of Sharjah’s larger plan to combine tradition with modernity. The emirate hopes to gain international recognition and guarantee the long-term preservation of one of the most important archaeological settings in the region by obtaining UNESCO status for Al Faya.
