A towering column of dust was captured in videos, swirling above vehicles that had halted on the road ahead.

Multiple areas across the UAE witnessed a dramatic storm on Wednesday, with several tornado-like formations.

Heavy rains, hail, and dust storms swept through Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah. Authorities in Abu Dhabi took to social media to caution residents about the ongoing moderate to heavy rains in Al Ain, offering safety tips for motorists.

Massive dust devils, resembling tornados, were seen in Kalba and Ras Al Khaimah, as shown in videos shared by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) on Wednesday. Rain poured over these areas while huge dust formations swirled across the landscape. In one clip, lightning struck the ground near parked vehicles, as motorists stopped ahead of an approaching storm. In the video below, you can observe a huge dust column towering above cars and people on the road.

Earlier forecasts from the UAE’s Met Department predicted that moist air from the Arabian Sea would move toward the country on Thursday and Friday. This weather pattern coincides with the extension of a weak low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere, accompanied by a relatively cold air mass, leading to the formation of convective clouds.
