Racing alongside hundreds of participants in the Arabian Gulf and cycling through one of Dubai’s busiest highways was an unforgettable experience. The stunning views of the Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai kept me going, even when my legs felt like jelly during the run.
Here’s my personal account of joining the inaugural Dubai T100 Sprint Triathlon last month.
Race Day Highlights
On a crisp Saturday morning, along with over 800 participants, I arrived at Sunrise Beach in Dubai. Nervous yet excited, I was ready for the race that included a 750m swim, a 20km bike ride, and a 5km run.
As the golden sunrise illuminated Dubai’s iconic skyline, my nerves faded, replaced by gratitude for being part of something so special with so many like-minded individuals.
Soon, my group of swimmers was called forward. The countdown began, and before I knew it, I was sprinting into the ocean. From there, the race became a thrilling blur. While challenging, it was an incredible experience filled with euphoria at the finish line.
With the next edition set for November 16–17, 2025, I’m determined to encourage more UAE residents to join me. Here are five reasons why this should be on your bucket list.
5 Reasons to Join the Dubai T100 Sprint Triathlon
1) Meet New People
This triathlon brings together Dubai’s most active and sociable individuals. Though it’s a solo sport, you naturally bond with others as you navigate this incredible journey together.
2) Boost Your Fitness
Triathlon training offers a full-body workout, combining swimming, cycling, and running. It strengthens every muscle, improves cardiovascular health, and keeps you on track with regular fitness routines.
3) Learn New Skills
Revisiting childhood activities like swimming and cycling while refining them to new levels is deeply rewarding. Training for a triathlon helps you overcome mental barriers, improve focus, and grow more confident in handling challenges.
4) Build Confidence
Completing a triathlon, even a sprint distance, is a huge accomplishment. It leaves you feeling empowered and ready to take on life’s hurdles with a renewed sense of confidence.
5) Compete with Pros
While professional athletes race separately, participating in the same event alongside Olympic triathletes is exhilarating. Sharing the same course adds a unique thrill to the experience.
Tips for First-Time Triathletes
From my experience, here are five tips to make your first triathlon a success:
1) Train with a Group
Joining a triathlon community helps you stay motivated and learn from experienced athletes. Swim clinics and group sessions made training enjoyable and effective for me.
2) Get a Tri Suit
While not mandatory, a tri suit simplifies transitions between swimming, cycling, and running. It’s a worthwhile investment that enhances practicality and comfort.
3) Use a Good Bike
Invest in or rent a lightweight road bike. For the T100, I used a loaned aerodynamic bike, which significantly improved my cycling time compared to previous races.
4) Train Smart
Balance is key. Overtraining can lead to injuries. Use fitness trackers to monitor your body’s limits and prioritize rest alongside your busy schedule.
5) Stay Hydrated
Electrolyte tablets are game-changers, especially when training during Dubai’s hot months. Staying hydrated ensures better endurance and performance during the race.
Whether you’re looking for adventure, fitness, or an unforgettable challenge, the Dubai T100 Sprint Triathlon has it all. Mark your calendars for November 2025 and start your journey today!
