AI Apps Pose Rising Threat to Biometric Privacy, UAE Cautions
With the growing popularity of AI-powered face-editing and enhancement applications, the UAE government has issued a strong advisory urging the public to exercise caution. Officials warn that many of these apps collect and store users’ biometric data—particularly facial scans—which can be misused or exploited.

Digital Identity at Risk Amid App Craze
As AI-generated selfies and age-progression apps go viral, cybersecurity experts have raised red flags about how these platforms store and potentially share sensitive data. The public has been asked to read privacy policies carefully and avoid granting apps full access to camera rolls or live images.

Officials Emphasise the Need for Cybervigilance
The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) highlighted that biometric data—unlike passwords—cannot be changed if compromised. “Once your facial data is out there, it’s nearly impossible to retrieve or erase,” a spokesperson said, urging users to prioritize apps from trusted sources.

National Efforts to Build a Cyber-Safe Society
This warning is part of a broader campaign by UAE authorities to strengthen digital literacy and protect residents from rising online threats. Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious apps and educate young users about the long-term risks of sharing personal data online.
