UAE Braces for Soaring Humidity: What’s Fueling the Sticky Surge?

As summer intensifies across the UAE, residents of Dubai and Abu Dhabi are not just facing scorching temperatures but a sharp rise in humidity that’s making conditions feel even more sweltering. While the mercury may hover around the high 40s°C, it’s the sticky moisture in the air that’s turning daily commutes and outdoor activities into a test of endurance.

Meteorologists note that the increase in humidity is common for this time of year, as greater sea surface temperatures in the Arabian Gulf draw more moisture into the atmosphere. This high humidity decreases the body’s capacity to cool itself through sweat, making even mild temperatures feel much hotter—a phenomenon known as the “feels-like” temperature.

Experts advise individuals to stay indoors during peak heat hours, water frequently, and avoid heatstroke. In the coming weeks, humidity levels are projected to approach 90%, particularly in the early mornings and late evenings, resulting in sticky conditions long after sunset.

Despite the discomfort, UAE authorities continue to regularly monitor weather patterns and issue cautions to protect the population. Meanwhile, air-conditioned malls, shaded walkways, and good hydration habits will remain important survival techniques as the country prepares for the heat of summer.
