With a chance to earn one of Asia’s final two spots for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the UAE national football team is poised to qualify for the World Cup as they enter the AFC Playoffs. This marks a pivotal moment for the UAE, aiming to return to the global stage for the first time since their 1990 appearance.
Gulf News

In the AFC Playoffs, six nations—UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Indonesia, and Oman—compete in two groups of three, with the top team from each group earning direct qualification to the World Cup. The UAE is placed in Group A alongside hosts Qatar and Oman. Matches are scheduled from October 8 to 14, 2025.

The UAE will play the runner-up from Group B in a two-leg playoff if they place second in their group. Following this tie, the victor will advance to the inter-confederation playoffs, providing a last chance to guarantee a place in the competition.

With the expanded 48-team format for the 2026 World Cup, Asia has increased its direct qualification spots. The UAE’s performance in these upcoming matches will determine their fate, with the nation eagerly anticipating a return to the world stage.
