UAE Fatwa Council: Separate Prayers for Eid and Friday

The UAE Fatwa Council has officially clarified that Eid Al Adha and Friday (Jumu’ah) prayers will be performed separately on Thursday, June 6, 2025. This announcement addresses a long-standing theological debate surrounding the overlap of these two significant Islamic prayers.

The Council explained that while some Islamic schools of thought allow Friday prayers to be waived if Eid falls on the same day, the UAE will adhere to the view that both prayers must be held independently. Muslims are therefore encouraged to attend both the Eid prayer in the morning and Jumu’ah prayer at midday.

The goal of this explanation is to preserve national religious practice’s coherence and homogeneity. Logistical preparations are already in place, and mosques have been told to get ready for the anticipated massive crowds.

The Fatwa Council’s statement reflects the UAE’s commitment to religious scholarship and structured guidance, ensuring that citizens and residents can observe their religious obligations with clarity and peace of mind.
