New artificial reefs have been placed off Umm Al Quwain’s coast to protect marine life and support sustainable fishing.
This initiative, led by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, was created with help from the Marine Affairs and Living Aquatic Resources Regulatory Committee.
These artificial reefs aim to create a safe, eco-friendly marine zone that encourages marine biodiversity and supports the UAE’s environmental goals.
Hiba Obaid Al Shehhi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Biodiversity and Marine Life at the Ministry, shared that the reefs will help sustain the local fisheries and safeguard fish populations, a key natural resource for the country. “This project is set to rebuild fish stocks and ensure a healthier coastal environment,” she noted.
