UAE Midday Ban: Abu Dhabi Firm Leads in Workers’ Safety

As the UAE’s midday work ban takes effect during the scorching summer months, a workshop in Abu Dhabi is setting an example by prioritizing employee safety and well-being. The initiative falls under the government’s broader directive to safeguard laborers from heat-related illnesses.

The Abu Dhabi Municipality has urged all companies to implement a comprehensive heat stress management program. These include rest shelters, hydration stations, shaded areas, and scheduled health checks for workers exposed to the sun during peak hours.

The featured workshop has gone beyond basic compliance by providing instructional sessions on heat stroke avoidance, distributing electrolyte drinks, and altering working hours to take advantage of cooler periods of the day. Supervisors also utilise wearable technology to monitor symptoms of heat fatigue.

Officials welcomed the preemptive efforts, describing them as a model for industrywide adoption. The midday break, from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM, runs until mid-September and aims to reduce workplace injuries and fatigue in extreme weather conditions.
