Sometimes, expecting mothers choose to travel abroad to be with their families during childbirth, preferring a familiar and comfortable environment for this special occasion.

No matter where a baby is born, if parents plan to bring their newborn back to the UAE, there are important steps to follow to register the child’s birth. This registration ensures the child’s legal rights globally and in the UAE.

Steps for UAE Citizens

For UAE citizens, the process involves:

  1. Getting a Birth Certificate: Obtain the birth certificate from the country where the child was born.
  2. Registering at the Embassy: Within 30 days of birth, visit the nearest UAE embassy to register the baby.
  3. Return Document: The embassy will issue a return document for the baby. Once back in the UAE, the baby can be added to the family book.

Steps for Expats Residing in the UAE

For expat residents, the process differs slightly:

  1. Birth Certificate: Get a birth certificate from the country where the baby was born.
  2. Passport Issuance: Apply for the baby’s passport in the same country.
  3. Visa Application: After obtaining the passport, apply for a visa to bring the baby to the UAE.

These steps are essential to ensure smooth travel and compliance with UAE regulations.
