Know Your UAE Rights: Public Holiday Work Compensation Explained

Understanding your rights in the UAE is crucial, especially when it comes to working on public holidays. If you find yourself working on a day like January 1, you shouldn’t have to forfeit your benefits. According to UAE Labour Law, employees who work during public holidays are entitled to additional compensation on top of their regular pay. This law is designed to ensure that workers are treated fairly and that their contributions on these special days are recognized.

If you work on a paid public holiday, you have the right to either a compensatory day off or extra pay that amounts to 150% of your usual daily wage. This rule applies to both public and private sector employees, reflecting the UAE’s dedication to worker welfare and equitable labor practices.

Employers must inform their employees ahead of time if they are needed to work during a public holiday. If you do not receive the appropriate compensation or a day off, you have the right to report the issue to the relevant authorities to protect your rights.

Whether you’re working on a holiday or not, knowing your entitlements under the UAE Labour Law gives you the confidence to handle workplace situations effectively and ensures you are treated fairly in every scenario.
