The UAE has rolled out new traffic laws that give authorities the right to arrest errant drivers for reckless driving on the spot. The hardened action is part of an overall push to enhance road safety and decrease accidents resulting from hazardous driving.

Under the new law, drivers who commit stunts, excessive speeding, or dangerous lane changing will be liable for immediate detention. The penalties for these offenses have also been heightened substantially to act as a deterrent.

The Ministry of Interior emphasized that irresponsible driving puts lives at risk and upsets public order. Through stricter punishments, the government hopes to cultivate a responsible culture among road users.

Authorities have called on residents and visitors to observe traffic laws strictly, pointing out that safe driving is everyone’s responsibility essential to safeguarding lives and keeping the UAE’s world-class road network safe.
