UAE Drivers Take Note: Driving Slowly in Fast Lanes May Result in a Fine

Motorists in the UAE are being cautioned about the risks of driving too slowly in the fast lane, even if their speedometers indicate 110km/h. Authorities have made it clear that driving below the minimum speed limit on designated roads can lead to fines, highlighting the importance of following traffic regulations that are in place to maintain smooth traffic flow.

This alert is especially pertinent on roads with variable speed limits, where the minimum speed is often ignored. For example, a road with a maximum speed limit of 140km/h may require a minimum speed of 120km/h in certain lanes. Not adhering to this limit can disrupt traffic and heighten the chances of accidents, prompting law enforcement to increase their monitoring efforts.

Traffic experts point out that the fast lane is intended for overtaking or for vehicles traveling at higher speeds. Drivers in this lane must keep up with the minimum speed to avoid penalties. Authorities have also noted that slow driving in high-speed lanes is a major factor in road rage incidents and sudden lane changes, both of which can lead to accidents.

To prevent fines and promote safety, drivers are encouraged to look for minimum speed signs and stay updated on road-specific regulations. By following these rules, motorists can contribute to a safer driving environment for everyone.
