UAE Supports Trump’s Sanctions Lift on Syria, Endorses Peaceful Aspirations

The United Arab Emirates has formally welcomed former US President Donald Trump’s announcement to lift sanctions on Syria, a step toward regional stabilization and humanitarian relief. In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) reiterated its unwavering support for the Syrian people in attaining their legitimate aspirations for peace, development, and national unity.

The UAE reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all initiatives that consolidate security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity in Syria and called on the international community to work together towards lasting peace in the war-torn country. Lifting sanctions, UAE officials said, would ease the humanitarian crisis and resuscitate reconstruction efforts.

MoFA further urged increased diplomatic efforts and regional cooperation to ensure the decision will have concrete rewards for regular Syrians. The UAE has been promoting Arab unity and realistic cooperation towards resolving disputes in the Middle East for a long time.

Trump’s declaration has been met with mixed reactions around the world, but the UAE’s positive stance is indicative of its greater diplomatic re-engagement with Syria, including reopening missions and greater humanitarian assistance since 2018.
