Motorists in Abu Dhabi are encouraged to plan their travel routes due to rolling road closures scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024, in support of the much-anticipated Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo.

These temporary closures will occur along the Sheikh Zayed Festival to Al Ain cycle track from 5:30 AM to 11:30 AM as cyclists participate in the 150km race. This notable event highlights Abu Dhabi’s dedication to cycling and promotes healthy living and sustainability.

Event Details
Start Time: 6:00 AM
Starting Point: Sheikh Zayed Festival, Al Wathba
Distance: 150 kilometers
Route: Sheikh Zayed Festival to Al Ain cycle track
The Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo is a flagship event designed to enhance the UAE’s status as a global cycling hub, drawing both professional and amateur cyclists from around the globe.

Traffic Impact and Motorist Advisory
The Abu Dhabi Mobility Department has stated that traffic will be halted in phases to ensure the safety of both participants and spectators. Motorists are advised to:

Plan their journeys
Avoid the affected areas during the event hours.
Follow detour signs and heed the instructions of on-site traffic marshals.

What Is a Rolling Closure?
A rolling closure differs from a full road closure by allowing roads to reopen in sections as the last participants pass through. This approach helps to reduce the overall impact on traffic while maintaining safety as a priority.

Cycling: A Growing Movement in Abu Dhabi
The Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo is part of a broader initiative to establish the UAE capital as a premier cycling destination. With top-notch facilities, dedicated cycling paths, and prominent events, Abu Dhabi encourages the community to embrace cycling as a sustainable and health-focused mode of transportation.

Public Cooperation Needed
Authorities have thanked the public for their understanding and cooperation during the event. Officials are committed to ensuring smooth traffic flow and a successful event.
