The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a yellow alert, warning residents and drivers in the UAE about the possibility of fog that could affect visibility. The alert indicates that horizontal visibility may be greatly reduced in various coastal and inland areas, with these conditions expected to last from 1:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
As cooler autumn temperatures settle in, fog has become a common weather phenomenon, leading the NCM to remind drivers to remain alert and follow traffic regulations designed to ensure safety during foggy conditions. The advisory specifically suggests reducing speed, using fog lights when available, and keeping a safe distance between vehicles.
Given past incidents during similar weather, local authorities and the NCM stress the need for preventive measures and adherence to updated traffic alerts. The forecast advises drivers to exercise caution in areas prone to fog, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Al Ain, where limited visibility can result in slower travel times and possible delays.
In the UAE, “fog season” generally runs from late autumn to early spring, with the atmospheric conditions during these months favoring the development of thick fog, particularly in the early morning hours. This recent alert highlights the necessity of safe driving practices as seasonal weather patterns introduce new challenges on UAE roads.
