UAE’s Best Nurse Award: Aster Guardians Offers Dh900,000 Prize

The Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award, one of the world’s top recognitions for nurses, is now accepting nominations for its fourth edition. With a prize of Dh900,000 ($250,000), this award highlights the incredible impact nurses make in healthcare, from patient care to innovation.

Registered nurses worldwide can apply at www.asterguardians.com by February 10, 2025. Applicants can showcase their achievements in areas like patient care, leadership, community service, or research. Launched in 2021, this award celebrates nurses who go above and beyond in their profession.

Last year, Maria Victoria Juan, a military nurse from the Philippines, won the 2024 edition for creating an evacuation system that improved survival rates in conflict zones. The event saw an incredible 78,000 applications from 202 countries, a 50% increase from 2023.

How the Winner Is Selected

The evaluation process is carefully managed by an independent jury with support from Ernst & Young LLP (EY). Global healthcare experts on the grand jury will review all applications and select the top 10 finalists. The winner will be announced in May 2025, aligning with International Nurses Day.

Past Winners and Their Achievements

  • 2023 Finalists: Among them was 49-year-old Nelson Bautista from Tawam Hospital in Al Ain, recognized for wellness programs and training initiatives for nurses.
  • 2022 Winner: British nurse Margaret Helen Shepherd was honored for her work on monogenic diabetes, helping patients stop insulin after decades of dependency.
  • 2021 Winner: Kenyan nurse Anna Qabale Duba used her prize money to build a school educating 200+ children and adults in her remote village without electricity.
