Dubai: The Mohammed Bin Rashid (MBR) Explorer spacecraft is set to journey to the Asteroid Belt. It will be launched aboard a Japanese rocket. As revealed during an agreement signing ceremony in Dubai on Wednesday. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Supreme Space Council was present at the event. The event marked a significant milestone in the UAE’s expanding ambitions in space exploration.
The launch is scheduled for early 2028. It is part of the Emirates Mission to the Asteroid Belt. This groundbreaking initiative is aimed at enhancing the UAE’s role in space science. During the ceremony, Sheikh Hamdan emphasized the significance of this mission. He noted that it represents a vital step in the UAE’s aspiration to become a key player in the global space sector.
“This mission highlights the skills and dedication of Emiratis. It also reflects our leadership’s commitment to building our national capabilities,” Sheikh Hamdan stated. He pointed out that the agreement with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is a strategic decision. It will increase the UAE’s standing in the international space community.
The mission will see the MBR Explorer embark on a 13-year journey. There are plans to fly by six asteroids before landing on the seventh, Justitia. It will employ advanced scientific instruments to collect essential data on the asteroids’ composition and history. This mission will enhance the understanding of scientists about these celestial bodies.
The UAE’s collaboration with Japan is highlighted by the involvement of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). It is expected to strengthen bilateral ties in space exploration and technological advancement. As the UAE continues to invest in the space sector.
