Dubai Police to Use AI to Catch Seat Belt Offenders

In a bid to improve road safety, Dubai Police have launched a new initiative that employs artificial intelligence (AI) technology to identify drivers and passengers who are not wearing seat belts. This cutting-edge strategy aims to enhance adherence to the UAE’s seat belt law, ensuring that everyone in a vehicle is securely fastened while on the road. With AI-powered surveillance systems now monitoring traffic, offenders can expect to face penalties even if they are not directly observed by law enforcement.

Fines and Penalties for Non-Compliance

According to the UAE’s seat belt law, both drivers and passengers must wear seat belts while the vehicle is in motion. Non-compliance can result in hefty fines and penalties. Drivers caught without a seat belt will incur a fine of AED 400, while those found driving with unbelted passengers will face additional consequences. Each unbuckled passenger in the vehicle will lead to a fine of AED 400 for the driver. This initiative reflects the government’s ongoing dedication to reducing road accidents and fatalities.

AI Monitoring and How It Works

The implementation of AI technology for monitoring seat belt compliance will utilize advanced cameras and sensors strategically positioned along roads and highways. These systems are designed to detect when vehicle occupants are not properly restrained, transmitting real-time data to law enforcement for prompt action. This intelligent monitoring system can identify violations more quickly than traditional methods, ensuring that those who disregard safety regulations are held accountable. It represents a proactive strategy to prevent accidents before they occur.
