Beau Webster, an all-rounder who hasn’t played a Test yet, was added to Australia’s squad for the second Test against India in Adelaide. This decision comes after Mitchell Marsh reported soreness following Australia’s 295-run loss in the first Test in Perth on Monday.
The 30-year-old Webster has been performing brilliantly for Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield over the last 18 months. His strong seam bowling and powerful batting caught the selectors’ attention, making him a valuable option as cover for Marsh.
“Webster will join the squad next week after being named Sheffield Shield Player of the Year last summer and continuing his great form this season,” Cricket Australia announced.
Although Marsh’s availability remains uncertain, Australia’s coach Andrew McDonald hinted that the team might stick with the same playing XI despite the tough defeat in Perth.
Webster and the rest of the Australian squad are heading to Adelaide earlier than planned to maximize their training ahead of the day-night Test starting on December 6.
After the Adelaide Test, the series will continue in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.
