Australian Test opening batsman Usman Khawaja responded to allegations implying that he pretended to be injured so he could attend a Formula 1 race. The left-hand batter cleared his name saying the team physios were fully briefed on his situation, and he is undergoing the rehabilitation process still.
Khawaja, who was sidelined from recent cricketing action due to the injury, showed displeasure with the public rumors and reiterated his desire for a full recovery. “I’ve been working closely with the medical staff, and there has been complete transparency in respect of my rehab process,” he said.
The cricketer also clarified that his visit to the F1 event was a short commitment, and it did not disrupt his treatment schedule. He asked people and critics not to jump to conclusions without knowing the complete situation.
Cricket Australia has not made an official statement yet, but Khawaja’s comments have served to calm some of the criticism. Fans have since come out in support of him, commending his honesty and professionalism in dealing with the issue.
