VinFast 8: Vietnam’s Budget-Friendly EV Arrives in Dubai

A new automotive brand to the region, VinFast introduced a range of four electric vehicles (EVs) in Dubai, with one model set to be released soon. During a launch event on Bluewaters Island, the brand revealed its VF 6, 7, 8, and 9 models, showcasing a strong commitment to green mobility.

VinFast’s VF 8, a compact SUV, will be the first of the lineup to hit Middle Eastern roads. This model, priced at $47,500 (Dh174,500), brings a budget-friendly option with advanced tech features, such as access to the VinFast app that includes in-car voice assistance.

The VF 8 is all-wheel drive, powered by dual electric motors, and comes in two versions: Eco and Plus. It has a quick acceleration from 0 to 100kph in under six seconds and offers a range of about 400km. Sustainability is key, as the VF 8’s interior features vegan leather.

VinFast’s VF 8 also stands out with its design by the renowned Italian car studio Pininfarina, known for creating iconic looks for brands like Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, Fiat, GM, Lancia, and Maserati.

Other models include the VF 6 and VF 7, which are compact SUVs like the VF 8, and the VF 9, a full-size seven-seater, making it the largest in VinFast’s range.

VinFast may be a new name for the region, but the brand is from Vietnam and was founded in 2017, making it relatively young but ambitious in expanding globally. Before its UAE entry, VinFast launched in the US, Canada, Europe, Indonesia, India, and the Philippines. Besides cars, the company also produces electric scooters and buses.

VinFast’s arrival in the UAE is a positive development for EV owners, as the brand recently partnered with Charge&Go to promote EV charging infrastructure across the country. The VF 8 will be available in Gulf markets later this year.

VinFast follows close on the heels of another electric vehicle launch in the UAE, with the introduction of the Nio EL8 in Abu Dhabi. Nio’s flagship six-seater SUV offers all-wheel drive, reaches 100kph in 4.1 seconds in Sport+ mode, and includes AI capabilities connected to ChatGPT.
