Marwa Hasan Alsayedabbas Alfardan spent much of her childhood visiting hospitals for physiotherapy and medical appointments. As a determined individual, these experiences left a lasting mark on her.

Today, at 21 years old, Marwa works as a guest service executive at Burjeel Hospital Abu Dhabi, dedicating herself to serving patients. “Hospitals always felt like a second home to me,” Marwa shared. “I knew working in healthcare would let me give back to the community that supported me when I needed help.”

A Role That Inspires

Navigating the hospital in her wheelchair, Marwa plays an essential role in interacting with patients, coordinating appointments, and ensuring smooth service. Earlier this week, she was honored as an ambassador under Burjeel Holdings’ initiative to empower Emirati talent.

This initiative, launched to celebrate the UAE’s 53rd National Day, promoted 53 exceptional Emiratis to leadership roles as Etihad Ambassadors. Marwa’s recognition showcases her perseverance and dedication.

A Journey Marked by Determination

After graduating high school, Marwa attended her first job interview at Burjeel Hospital. She was hired and joined in June 2024, quickly excelling in her duties.

Her day starts by checking appointments and contacting patients to confirm their visits. “Sometimes clinics are busy, and patients have to wait,” she explained. “I work hard to ensure they’re seen promptly by coordinating with nurses. Even when the system slows down or there’s extra pressure, I find ways to manage.”

While her job comes with challenges, Marwa handles them confidently. During one interaction, an elderly patient misunderstood her situation, thinking he needed to approach her. Once he realized Marwa was in a wheelchair, his attitude changed, and the moment turned into one of mutual respect and understanding.

“I face challenges without fear,” Marwa said. “I’m very determined and love learning new things. If I encounter a problem, I don’t hesitate to ask for help.”

Art and Dreams

Outside of work, Marwa channels her creativity into art. Drawing has been her passion for years, and she dreams of opening her own gallery one day. “Art lets me express myself,” she said.

Being named an Etihad Ambassador is a milestone for Marwa. “This recognition means so much to me. It proves that with determination, anything is possible. I hope my story inspires others in my community to follow their dreams, no matter the challenges,” she shared.

Highlighting Emirati Talent

The Etihad Ambassador programme also recognized other exceptional Emiratis, such as 18-year-old Maryam Salem Al Falasi. Balancing a full-time 9-to-5 job at Medeor Hospital in Dubai while finishing high school, Maryam dreams of studying business.

“Nafis gave me the opportunity to start my career early. I believe more young people should take this path—it’s an amazing experience,” she said.

Marwa and Maryam’s journeys are shining examples of resilience and ambition, inspiring their communities and showing what’s possible with hard work and determination.
