Why Naseeruddin Shah Supported Hania Aamir and Diljit Dosanjh in the Casting of “Sardaar Ji 3”

In the face of criticism regarding the selection of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir for Sardaar Ji 3, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah publicly defended Diljit Dosanjh. Shah firmly stated, “I STAND FIRMLY WITH DILJIT,” arguing that the film’s director, not Dosanjh, made the choice to cast Aamir.

He accused political adversaries of using the Pahalgam disaster to stir up nationalist fervour, referring to them as the “dirty tricks deptt of Jumla Party.” Shah stressed his right to sustain friendships and affection across borders and denounced this politicisation as a danger to the interpersonal relationships between common Indians and Pakistanis.

Shah’s robust defense resonated abroad, as the film has premiered internationally and earned praise in Pakistan. He also bristled at social media trolls, telling them provocatively to “Go to Kailasa” rather than attacking artistic exchange.

The defense has ignited a fierce debate within Indian film circles. While cultural icons like Imtiaz Ali and Javed Akhtar support Shah’s stand, filmmaker Ashoke Pandit criticized it—arguing that Dosanjh, as a lead actor, could have declined the role.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has also taken action, urging Dosanjh’s removal from upcoming projects
